No better way to start 2022 than being a guest speaker at the Department of Translation and Intercultural Studies, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Earlier this month I had the honour to be invited as a guest speaker by Kyriaki Kourouni, a Senior Fellow at the Department of Translation and Intercultural Studies, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, to give a webinar presentation about digital presence and some basic SEO techniques for freelance translators.
The purpose of this event
The main purpose of this event was to present to the students how to craft a successful marketing strategy in order to build a strong digital presence for their translation business.
My goal was to provide students with the required knowledge so as to be able to promote their translation services into a much wider audience, and more specifically, to an audience that is used to interact in a noisy environment: the internet.
We discussed how can a translator these days reach all these distracted customers and get traffic to his/her website in order to gain more clients.
About the event
There was a very friendly atmosphere, students found the topic really interesting and they had prepared more than 40 questions to be discussed and answered in the QA session.
Definitely the most interesting topic was SEO and how to apply some basic SEO marketing techniques in order to drive more organic traffic to their website/online profiles. Plus, there were a lot of practical ideas so the participants could easily understand the theory and apply it in their own work.
I believe we all have a responsibility to give back to the translation community by sharing what we've learned along the way, and I'm really glad and proud I had the opportunity to do that for the students of a university that I'm also a graduate of.
I hope this would be the start of a great and fruitful collaboration.
